UTILIZING HIPPOTHERAPY

Hippotherapy is a powerful treatment strategy that utilises equine movement as part of an integrated intervention program. Hippotherapy is performed on the horse. Equine-assisted activities may be on or off the horse depending on the client's unique individual treatment plan.

The horse provides multidimensional movement that is variable, rhythmic and repetitive. The horse is a vehicle for sensory information and it’s dynamic base makes it an excellent tool for increasing postural control, balance, strength, endurance and motor planning.

Equine-assisted activities can provide opportunities for bilateral coordination, upper extremity strengthening and control, tool use and overall fine motor development.
